Page Rank

Page Rank is a very important part of Internet Marketing, almost vital. With one trillion web pages on the World Wide Web of the Internet, it has become harder and harder to find specific sites that people are searching for to get their information. This isn't "rocket science" but it does take a measureable amount of experience and knowledge to move up in the search engines so people can find your site and the information they need or want.

Google, the largest and most respected search engine, has developed a technology, PageRank™, that is perceived to be the best in the industry. Since they have that prestige, more people use Google to search the Intenet than any other search engine. In fact, "googling" has become a verb in the dictionaries because of the vast following of people now automatically go to Google.com to search for their information.

It may be a little technical but if you are interested in how the search engines rank web sites, you can read further. If it's all a blur, skip over it to the meat of the solution. skip

"Google, as an example, uses more than 200 signals, including their patented PageRank algorithm, to examine the entire link structure of the Internet's World Wide Web sites and determine which pages are most important. They conduct hypertext-matching analysis to determine which pages are relevant to the specific search that you have conducted. By combining importance and query-specific relevance to each individual search, they are able to put the most relevant and reliable results first.

  • PageRank Technology: PageRank reflects Google's view of the importance of the web pages by using more than 500 million variables and 2 billion relevance terms. Pages that Google believes are important pages receive a higher PageRank and are more likely to appear at the top of the search results.

PageRank also considers the importance of each page that casts a vote, as votes from some pages are considered to have greater value, thus giving the linked page greater value. We have always taken a realistic approach to help increase search quality and deliver useful search results based on the collective intelligence of the web to determine a page's importance.

  • Hypertext-Matching Analysis: Google's search engine also analyzes page content. But instead of simply scanning for page-based text (which can be manipulated by site publishers through meta-tags), our technology analyzes the full content of a page and factors in fonts, subdivisions and the precise location of each word. Google's search criteria also analyzes the content of neighboring web pages to ensure the results returned are the most relevant to a user's query." (from Google's Technology Overview)

What does this all mean? Simply... that the most important item in your Internet marketing strategy must be to get people to your site. That's first. Second, you must get them there with out a lot of searching through all the pages on the Internet so "search engine rankings" are vital to your to your efforts. You need to get to the first page, "above the fold" is the advertising slogan for it, (developed in the newspaper industry for getting above the folded page to the top side of the newspaper to attract the most attention and been seen by most of the readers) ... to even have a chance of getting them to see you ... before they have ten other chances to choose someone else. This will result in a "lost focus" of getting to your site and a chance that the competition may pull them away from you. To be on the first page of any search engine takes a very strong and sometimes costly process which is determined by the keywords that people use to search for you. If the words are highly competitive like "movies," "ipods," "music," "office supplies," "real estate,", etc., it may take considerable longer to reach the first page.

Pay-per-click advertising is another way to reach the top of the page on Google and other search engines. By purchasing Google "adwords" you can beplaced above the other search results of your competition. That is usually the shaded area of the top of the pages on Google and other search engines. Here's an example. The paid advertising in on the yellow background.

The 'true' search engine optimization, to increase your page rank, is a combination of "organic search engine optimization" (designing and programming your site code and content) and an advertising campain mix of pay-per-click, link building through blogging, social networking, PR press releases and a solid email marketing campaign to increase visitors and prospect to your site. I know that sounds like a lot of work ... and it is ... but it is the best investment you can make for your online market place. It wil take late hours and bloodshot eyes and it seems like a slow process. When I began my search engine optimization, I think I ranks in Alexa at 2,500,000 page rank. I remember I worked and worked at optimizizing my page; I joined as may social networking sites as possible; I built six blog sites and even did a little pay-per-click advertising. It seemed like a "too slow" process and I was sitting at 1,253,000 for three months but I never gave up changiing resubmitting and blogging; then all of a suden one day I pulled up my site and had to rub my eyes. I couldn't believe what I saw. My page rank read 777,000 and there is a solution.
